Paper for the 2025 IAROR Conference
A paper on Traxim was written for the 2025 International Association of Rail Operations Research conference (RailDresden 2025) and presented as a poster at the conference. It provides background to the development of Traxim, and further explanation of the technical characteristics of the software.
IAROR Conference Paper (pdf)Example Use Case Description
The following document provides a descrition of the inputs and outputs and the associated use case for a fantasy network based on the western region of the former Milwaukee Road railroad in the United States. The scenario described reflects the sample input and output files available for download below. More example use cases will be added over time, so keep checking back.

Output Files
The following files are sample outputs for the scenario described in the Milwaukee Road Example Use Case. The Google Earth kml file isn't able to be provided as a download. Please contact us if you would like a copy.
Unresolved Train Plan (pdf)Resolved Timetable (pdf)Train Statistics (csv)Track Statistics (csv)Input Files
The following csv files are templates for the inputs to Traxim. They are populated with data for the Milwaukee Road fantasy example network described in the Milwaukee Road Example Use Case.
The files below are the full set of input files required to run the scenario. This includes three geometry files and three tractive effort curve files.

Excel Tools
Speedboard Generator
The Speedboard Generator is an Excel file that can be used in conjunction with a track geometry file to automatically generate speedboards based on curve radius and permitted cant deficiency. Full instructions are given in the "How to" sheet of the file.
Speedboard Generator (xlsx)Tractive Effort File Generator
The Tractive Effort File Generator is an Excel file that can be used to generate Tractive Effort Curve input files using limited information about the performance characteristics of a type or class of locomotive. The information required is typically publicly available. While less accurate than a manufacturer's tractive effort curve, it is a generally adequate alternative when manufacturer data is not available. Full instructions are given in the "How to" sheet of the file.
